Sally Ostestock is a long running member of SA Rare Fruit Society and will be teaching us how to graft deciduous fruits such as apples, pears and stone fruits
This workshop will include grafting demonstrations, followed by a chance to practice on sticks before having a go at grafting different varieties onto your own tree to take home.

IMPORTANT TICKETING INFO:
Attendees have the chance to purchase grafting knives & rootstock from us, OR they can bring their own. Please select the appropriate ticket, including the type of tree you wish to grow (e.g dwarfs, apple, pear, peach, plum etc) as this will dictate what rootstock and scyons we need to order.
Please text Sally directly on 0438 512 389 if you would like a specific variety - please note all scyons are subject to availability

ORDERS FOR ROOSTOCKS MUST BE IN BY JULY 12 - no refunds will be provided thereafter

**If would just like to attend and practice grafting on some sticks or your own tree, you are welcome to simply purchase the "workshop only" ticket option. Grafting knives are recommended, though not compulsory. Stanley knives may be used also.

Additional information from Sally:

A rootstock is the root system & base of the plant & it is necessary to build (graft) the desired fruit variety (scion) onto the rootstock in order to get fruit.
The rootstock may have been grown from seed or cutting & it could be a seedling fruit tree that has popped up from fallen fruit in the garden.
Trees can only be grafted within their own family - eg Apples on apple roostock, Pears on pear rootstock,Cherries on cherry rootstock,Peaches, nectarines, peacharines & almonds on peach rootstock,Plums & apricots on plum rootstock
If a rootstock is big enough it is sometimes possible to graft more than one variety from the same family onto it, eg 2 or 3 different apples to pollinate each other, say granny smith + golden delicious + pink lady or your favourite combination.
Sometimes it may be possible to graft various stone fruits onto one peach rstk but this is the exception, not the rule.
It is not possible to make a fruit tree without a rootstock so if you don't have a seedling in a pot you will need to order a rootstock from Sally by July 12.
Some dwarf rootstocks may be available if ordered specifically through Sally
Limit of 3 rootstocks per person
A grafting knife is specially designed just for grafting & makes the job safer, easier & more accurate than an average sharp knife. Sally can supply high quality grafting knives if ordered by July 12th. Left-handed knives need to be specified & are more expensive.
Participants will need to bring a roll of white electrical tape.
Scions (the cuttings that are grafted onto the rootstock) will be available on the day @ $1 each.
Rolls of parafilm tape (optional) will be availavle @ $5 on the day.
