Workshop: Connect and Create with Las Fotos Project

On Saturday, August 29, Corita Art Center is pleased to host a unique found photography workshop in partnership with Las Fotos Project, an arts education non-profit based in Boyle Heights, elevating the voices of young women and gender-expansive artists through photography and mentorship. In the latest installment of our Corita 101 workshop series, Las Fotos Project teaching artist, Kenzie Floyd, will instruct participants how to use a thermal camera (AKA “receipt camera”) to create instant monochromatic photo printouts.
This workshop is a collaborative group project, and everyone who attends will leave with an accordion book of their own to commemorate this time and place and group of people.
Each participant is to bring a selection of personal photos that speak to the theme of transition, tradition or celebration (physical photographs or photos on phone screens will work just fine).
A note from Kenzie:
In an effort to overlay our connection to time (then, now, future), place (here, Los Angeles), and one another (stranger, neighbor), participants will take photos on thermal cameras, together creating a long procession of images—a colorful display of their connection to transition, tradition, and celebration. The ribbons of photos will fold into accordions to display, parade, and take home.

Kenzie Floyd is a photographer teaching artist based in Los Angeles. Her work is informed by movement, ritual, and collective effervescence.
