It’s back! Join us for the Auditioning 101 Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, July 11 at The Little Theatre’s new Pirolo Joyce Center, 4015 Brownsboro Rd., in Winston-Salem.Two workshops will be held: one for adults & teens 16+ (10 am-12 noon) and one for kids ages 8-15 (1-3 pm).
Each workshop will begin with a brief introduction to The Little Theatre’s audition process, including audition forms and headshots. Participants will then rotate through stations: a mock play audition, where they’ll do a brief cold reading; a mock musical audition, where they’ll sing a few measures from a song; and a mock choreography audition, where they’ll learn a short dance routine and perform it with their group. The whole experience will be a no-judgement zone! Helpful tips & hints will be given at each station.
All directors in the workshop will be experienced professionals, but none of them will be involved with any of our upcoming season’s productions. This should alleviate any concerns for those planning to audition in the coming months. Dress comfortably for the choreography part of the audition. For the song portion of the audition, please choose one of the songs below (whichever works best for your voice) and familiarize yourself with the words:
“That’s My Dad” (all) from Finding Nemo, Jr. … Karaoke version
“Naughty” (3:08-end) from Matilda: The Musical …Karaoke version (from 2:26, start singing 2:33)
“My Grand Plan” (2:15-2:56) from The Lightning Thief …Karaoke version w/lyrics (from 2:15, start singing 2:20); Karaoke version w/better sound (from 2:05, start singing 2:10)
“What it Means to Be a Friend” (until 1:23, “that’s what it means to be a friend”) from 13: The Musical …Karaoke version
Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes prior to their workshop so we can get started on time.
The LTWS Workshop Series was created to help members of the community learn the skills we use behind-the-scenes to put on a theatrical production. Everyone is welcome (please check age restrictions) and there is no cost to participate!
The Pirolo Joyce Center is located off of Cherry Street. You can park in the parking lot, on the street, or in the parking lot across the street.
