About this Event
Course Overview
So welcome to the workshop! First, we will get to know each other. Then we will develop measurable, clinically based, student-centred educational goals and have students define goals for the learning they will be doing.
Topics covered in this course
Introduction to Workplace Health and Safety Concepts
Find out everything you need to know about workplace health: what it is and why it is important, and the models which can be used to help you effectively manage safety within your organisation.
Chemical & Biological Agents
During this educational session, participants will be able to define chemical and biological agents, and identify dynamic chemical and biological risks. Participants will learn more about chemical and biological hazards and therefore be able to recognise the many risk involving safety for their environment.
Physical Agents
In this session, you will reflect upon the human experience of the dynamic domain of physical agents to better understand human reactions to hazards. You will be an expert on noise pollution, thermal stress and radiation exposure: no hazard is left untouched!
Ergonomics
This open session will teach you about the goal of ergonomics and its application to improving the wellbeing of anyone, anywhere by adopting best-practice approaches.
Psychosocial Hazards and Workplace Violence
This session aims to provide participants with an understanding of stress, explaining the transactional model and how it affects us. Participants will explore some of the major causes and corollaries to deal with this ubiquitous impostor – a first step to taking control of life’s more trying features.
Managing Psychosocial Hazards - Workplace Wellness
Today’s session puts a spotlight on creating the best possible working environment when it comes to productivity and wellbeing. From work-life balance, to the physical, spatial and temporal work trajectories that add up to flexibility in the office, and job-sharing opportunities – from prevention of violence via safe working practices to the need for healthy lifestyles habits – all explained!
The Legislative Framework for Health, Safety Management
The forthcoming session will provide information about legal rights and responsibilities of an employee and employer. Attendance is open to all who are curious to learn about work relationships.
Workers' Compensation Management and Disability Management (if requested)
A key session will cover the fundamentals of worker’s compensation benefits – you’ll look at how injured workers are paid, develop a systematic assessment process for WCBs, and figure out how to manage disabled workers so they can get back to work quickly and safely.
Workshop Wrap-Up
At the end of the course, students will be challenged to both formulate good questions and devise a ‘learning plan’ – a statement of what they have learnt and their own goals for change that flow from it.
