Working with Difficult Emotions a.k.a. Being Human!
A Daylong Retreat with Kate Siber and Rachel Turiel
Saturday, March 8 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Lunch break 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
From joy and gratitude to irritation, anger and despair, emotions are a natural and essential part of having a human heart and navigating our beautiful, challenging world. How can we learn to work skillfully with intense and painful feelings and even be open to the wisdom that lies beneath them? How can we savor the beautiful states that pass through our hearts without getting hooked? Join us for a daylong workshop-style retreat that will blend Buddhist teachings with Nonviolent Communication.
Our time together will include guided meditations, reflections, group sharing, journaling and mindful movement as we investigate the unique and potent messages our emotions bring. We will explore relating to feelings with skill and balance, bringing greater choice and empowerment to our own lives and our relationships with others.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($50, $70, $89, or $108 or scholarship options of $25 or $0) supports our non-profit, which pays the costs of the building, utilities, website, administration, etc. In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teachers of the class are not compensated but rather shares the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. You are invited to make a donation to support the teachers in continuing their valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
DATE: Saturday, March 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Durango Dharma Center, 1800 East Third Avenue, Suite 109 in Durango
QUESTIONS: If you have questions, please reach out to Kurt, at [email protected] or 970-426-8983.

More on her website.
ABOUT KATE SIBER: Kate Siber serves as a dharma leader for the Durango Dharma Center. She has been practicing meditation since 2012, when she first attended a Monday night sit at the center. She participated in the sixth iteration of Spirit Rockโ€™s Community Dharma Leader Program and completed her training with an 11-month Dharma Mentoring Program with Erin Treat and Pamela Weiss. Kate is currently in the Insight Meditation Society & Spirit Rock's four-year retreat teacher training. Spending time in wild nature is an important gateway for Kate. She also works as a freelance writer, a correspondent for Outside magazine and a children's book author. You can learn more about her writing work and sign up for her newsletter on her website.
