Working Towards an Anti-Racist Region
About this Event
The North East Anti-Racism Coalition (NEARC) is a movement of individuals and organisations of all ethnicities committed to helping to make the North East a region that actively opposes racism and hatred based on religious identity. Since our launch in September 2024, following the summer riots, we have already held ten meetings across the region, to develop and implement specific actions towards our goals, with active participation growing from 30 to over 120 people at each event; and a mailing list of over 1,000.
This event, our eleventh in the series, will see the official launch of the recent research that has been carried out in conjunction with Professor Peter Hopkins and his team at Newcastle University, looking at the impact and incidence of racism across the North East.
This event will give you the opportunity to hear more about the research and outcomes, as well time to sit and discuss with others the themes that were identified within the report and action that can be taken towards addressing the issues. We will be highlighting the recommendations that have been co-created, following the research, both with people with lived experience and people with roles involved in decision making processes that can amplify the issues.
Please note that our language and approach are still evolving as we take a co-creation approach to our movement.
Delegates are welcome to join us from 9.30am for light refreshments, ready for a prompt 10am start. The event will close at 1pm, with time for networking until 1:30pm.
Why not invite other people to join our movement. They can sign up at https://northeastantiracism.org.uk/contact/
