🐴 Mountain Trail Meets Working Equitation – Practice Day at Urban Trails 🐴
Have you ever watched Working Equitation and thought, “My horse already does something very similar at Mountain Trail”?
You’re probably right.
Mountain Trail and Working Equitation have more in common than many people realise. Both disciplines ask the horse and rider to work together through obstacles with confidence, accuracy, balance, softness and control.
At Urban Trails, our horses already practise many of the skills needed for Working Equitation, including:
✨ Gates
✨ Bridges
✨ Bending poles and tight turns
✨ Side passing
✨ Rein backs
✨ Pole work
✨ Small jumps
✨ Changes of direction
✨ Accurate transitions
✨ Calm, confident obstacle negotiation
The main difference is how the obstacles are presented and judged.
Mountain Trail focuses heavily on confidence, careful foot placement, terrain, balance and the horse’s ability to safely negotiate natural-style obstacles.
Working Equitation combines those same qualities with dressage movements, precision and, at higher levels, speed.
This practice day is designed to introduce riders to the similarities between the two disciplines and show how the skills you already use at Urban Trails can transfer into a Working Equitation course.
We will work through a range of obstacles, discuss the correct approach, break down rider position and horse biomechanics, and help you understand how balance, bend, rhythm and straightness can improve every obstacle.
There will be no pressure and no need to have previous Working Equitation experience.
This day is suitable for:
🐎 Mountain Trail riders wanting to try something new
🐎 Working Equitation riders wanting extra obstacle practice
🐎 Dressage riders wanting to add variety to their training
🐎 Western and ranch riders
🐎 Green horses needing confidence
🐎 Riders who simply enjoy learning and having fun with their horse
We will finish with the opportunity to ride a short Working Equitation-inspired course and put the day’s skills into practice.
This is not an official competition. It is a friendly, educational practice day where riders can learn, ask questions and give their horse time to understand each obstacle.
Come and discover just how closely Mountain Trail and Working Equitation fit together.
