Free Guided Tour & Creative Writing Experience 🌿✍️
What stories can nature inspire?
Join award-winning First Nations writer Cheryl Leavy, one of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney's inaugural Writers in Residence, for a unique experience that blends discovery, creativity and connection with the natural world.
Begin with a guided walk through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, led by one of our passionate Volunteer Guides. Explore the Garden's remarkable landscapes, history, botany and wildlife, and discover new ways of observing the world around you.
Then gather by the harbour for a creative writing session with Cheryl. Through poetry, storytelling and simple writing prompts inspired by Country, nature and place, you'll be encouraged to reflect, create and find inspiration in the environment around you.
At the end of the experience, you'll write a poem, message or reflection on eco paper. These written contributions will later be planted by our horticulturists to help create a living Words That Grow Garden — a collective artwork celebrating creativity, care and connection.
🌱 No writing experience required
🖊️ Writing materials provided
☕ Lunch break included, with food and coffee available to purchase nearby
👧 Suitable for adults and young people aged 12+ (accompanied by an adult)
Whether you're an experienced writer, a curious creative or simply looking for a new way to experience the Garden, we'd love you to join us.
