Words in the Woods: A Creative Writing Workshop
About this Event
Join us for a creative woodland writing inspired by the magic of The Cart Shed Woodlands. Through storytelling, exploration, and imagination, we'll gather ideas from the natural world and transform them into poetry together.
What We'll Do
Interactive Storytelling
We'll begin with a lively reading of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, bringing the story to life with sounds and effects created from the woodland around us.
Nature Exploration
Armed with your own clipboard, you'll set off on a sensory scavenger hunt, discovering sights, sounds, textures, and details hidden in the woods.
Gather Your Inspiration
Choose the creative approach that suits you best:
Collect interesting words and phrases
Sketch quick drawings and observations
Create crayon rubbings of leaves, bark, and natural textures
Build a Community Poem
We'll share our discoveries by clipping them onto a giant woodland washing line, watching individual ideas combine into a unique collaborative poem.
A Creative Space for Everyone
We want everyone to feel welcome, comfortable, and free to express themselves in their own way. There is no right or wrong approach.
Follow Your Own Path
Work with others on the large group poem, or find a quiet space to create a poem of your own.
No Pressure to Write
Prefer drawing or texture rubbings to writing? That's absolutely fine. Spelling, handwriting, and grammar don't matter here, creativity does.
Friendly Support
Experienced staff and volunteers will be on hand throughout the session to offer encouragement, ideas, and support whenever you need it. This one-off workshop will not have the usual clincial support usually offered in Cart Shed Sessions.
The Cart Shed can provide transport from Hereford, Kington and Leomister - spaces are limited
