Word Space Poetry improvers workshop - feedback, readings, peer-led, constructive critique, digging deep into your words, polishing poems
About this Event

Even more intimate and chilled than the usual open mic events, Word Space workshops are a cosy and more detailed dive into our poems.

This is one for anyone who wants to improve and take their poetry and writing practice to the next step - that's right, anyone : no level of writing experience necessary. The only requirement is an interest in learning and growing as a writer... and a pen.

The sessions is 50% guided, prompted writing formed from selected readings aimed at building your craft skills and 50% 'workshopping' - reading each other's poems critically, analysing and discussing technique and pushing each other creatively with suggestions, ideas and different perspectives.

Like all Word Space events, if you want to come but can't due to your financial situation send me a message and we'll sort out a reduced ticket price - no worries. If you are in work right now and doing ok, please donate generously so cheaper tickets for those that need them can keep happening - mutural arty community > capitalism

If you haven't been to Word Space Open Mic events and are wondering what this is all about and who I am:

I'm Joshua Hallam, poet and facilitator, MA in Writing Poetry at The Poetry School, host of Word Space. Word Space is a poetry community started in 2021 which includes open mics, workshops, events and loads of good vibes. If you like good words and good folk, you'll love it.

This venue has unfortunately does not have step free access

Agenda

🕑: 01:00 PM - 01:10 PM
Welcome, intros

Info: Grab a seat, find a latte, say hello and meet some lovely new creative folk

🕑: 01:10 PM - 02:00 PM
Writing

Info: We read a poem together, discuss, chat (no need for academic language... 'I like this bit', or 'I don't like this bit' can lead to some amazing debate and discussion!), then do some guided writing together. Mutual support to squash the writer's block

🕑: 02:00 PM - 02:10 PM
Break

Info: More coffee, cake and nice conversation

🕑: 02:10 PM - 03:00 PM
Workshop

Info: Space to bring your poems and drafts to the group for engaging advice, support, and guidance from the hive mind. It's gentle, thoughtful and generous feedback that is helpful at all levels - from first poem ever, to 'should I add this one to my 4th collection?'
