Worcester will mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January with a commemorative event at Worcester Guildhall, marking the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, starting at 10.30am. Pupils from local high schools will take part, alongside guest speaker Revd Tony Rindl, whose father came to the UK on the Kindertransport.
This year’s theme, Bridging Generations, highlights the importance of remembrance across all ages.
An accompanying exhibition, Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust, will open at The Hive Library from 2–28 February, sharing powerful accounts of rescuers and survivors across Europe. In addition, the Guildhall, University of Worcester Arena and Art House will be illuminated purple on 27 January as part of the national Light the Darkness moment.
