🪵 Walnut Cutting Board Workshop 🪵
Come spend four hands-on hours in the shop creating your very own solid walnut cutting board—and leave with a beautiful, functional piece you made yourself!
No power-tool experience necessary! This workshop will focus heavily on traditional hand tools and hand-tool woodworking techniques, making it a great introduction for anyone who has been curious about woodworking but feels intimidated by power tools.
All of the rough cutting, flattening, joining, and initial glue-up will be completed ahead of time so we can spend most of our class time on the fun part: shaping, smoothing, and finishing your cutting board.
✨ What you'll learn & do: • Shape and refine your cutting board
• Learn traditional hand-tool techniques
• Practice edge shaping and rounding
• Learn surface preparation and smoothing techniques
• Learn how to properly finish and care for a wooden cutting board
• Get hands-on experience using a variety of woodworking tools
Your board will be approximately 1" thick and at least 14.5" x 10". Because the board will be made from joined pieces of walnut, you'll also have some flexibility to adjust the final size during class if you'd like a slightly larger or smaller board.
And because the best way to learn is to actually use the tools, we'll build a cutting board alongside you starting from rough walnut stock. Participants will have the opportunity to take turns using hand planes and other traditional woodworking tools to experience the roughing, jointing, and smoothing process firsthand.
Your project will already be prepped, though, so you can get right into shaping while still getting a chance to experience the entire process!
Ages 12 and up!
