Woodland Cemetery (Des Moines, Iowa) | Des Moines, IA
Woodland Cemetery is a vast treasury of our heritage and a final resting place for many early leaders who transformed our city and country. 🗣️ Join Archie Cook, cemetery historian/researcher/educator, in this incredible 2.5-hour tour where he shares his wealth of knowledge.
🪦The stories told by the monuments and headstones combine to form the history of the city as it has passed through civil and world wars, epidemics, and natural disasters, as well as the normal course of birth, life, and death.⚔️ Passing through the narrow drives of the cemetery, you see stone etchings of the names of many citizens from our past who helped build Des Moines. 🏫 The names are a part of everyday life in our city's landscape, streets, parks, schools, and buildings like Savery, Kenworthy, Ingersoll, Hubbell, Kaplan, Perkins, Teachout, Fleur, Redhead, Polk, and Sherman.
📆 April 4, May 16*, June 20*, July 18*, August 8*, October 10; Times Vary
The tours include about a mile of walking. *Gold Cart Assisted Tours can drive up to 5 participants to help reduce walking.
