About this Event
P LEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.
Join this leisurely ramble with a Birmingham Ramblers group leader and enjoy social walking with our friendly members.
It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.
Walk leaders: Dave and Sandra Sutton
Meeting arrangements:
Meet at 9.30 am outside The Square Peg pub (115 Corporation Street, Birmingham, B4 6PH) to catch the number 23 bus at 9.45 am to Woodgate Valley Country Park (arr. 10.22 am).
As this is a linear walk, the end point will be Bristol Road, Selly Oak. Return to city using bus 61 or 61, or train from Selly Oak Station.
Walk Description:
This is a 4 mile walk with easy walking on manly good paths.
We will make our way through the start of Woodgate Valley Country Park and then on to The Bournbrook Walkway. On the track to the Bournbrook, there is a large “Erratic”, a boulder deposited from the ice age. At the Walkway, we do not take the paved path, but a rougher track just to the north of the stream as far as West Boulevard, which we cross. There is more interest on this track and better views of the water. There are several more Erratics along the Bournbrook here, though some are actually in the stream and would be difficult to spot. Onto the paved Walkway we continue and after crossing Harborne Lane, a short distance on we arrive at the A38. Skirting around Sainsbury’s supermarket, we cross the Birmingham-Worcester canal and under the railway line, and arrive at the Bristol Road.
At this point walkers have the choice of taking the 61 or 63 bus back to the city or train from Selly Oak railway station. You may join the walk leader for a post-walk drink at The Bristol Pear pub. The track at Bournbrook may be muddy if it has been raining.
Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 26 February 2026. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
===================================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
