Woodblock carving is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, a relief method where wood is carved away to create an image. In this class, you will watch demonstrations on each step: creating an image, transferring the image to a woodblock, carving, and hand printing. Students then create their own woodblock, carve it out, and have a print worthy of framing! No experience necessary; beginners and intermediates welcome.
Please note: All class supplies are provided. Prior to arrival, we recommend that students consider a handful of ideas for their woodblock and print out a copy of the chosen image. Ideal imagery has bold shapes or lines to make carving easier. Woodblock dimensions are approximately 6x6 inches. Students will have an hour and a half to carve their images.
Age: This class is appropriate for ages 14+.
Location: This class will take place at Kali Ann Art Studio, located at 1144 E. Main Street, Rochester, NY 14609. The front entrance is ground level with a parking lot in the rear of the building at 355 Hayward Ave.
Accessibility: An accessible entrance is located by parking in the Autozone lot and using our front entrance.
