Do you - or someone you know - have original wood windows in your home or business that could use a little TLC?
Would you like to learn new skills and see some new tools and techniques in action?
Have we got the opportunity for you?! :)
The Knoxville Preservation Foundation will host a series of free, hands-on classes covering the basics of repairing/restoring your wood windows so they not only look beautiful, but function efficiently again, too 🪟
In Part 1, we'll cover:
-Removing your window sashes.. even those pesky STUCK ones!
-Preparing your jamb to reinstall the restored sashes.
-Removing old glazing putty and glass.
-Methods for stripping paint safely and effectively.
Part 2 will most likely come the following weekend, but watch for updated information as the time approaches. In that session, we'll talk about:
-Cleaning and reinstalling glass panes.
-Reglazing
-Methods of finishing (stains, paints, etc.)
-Cleaning painted-over or tarnished hardware.
PLEASE RSVP IN ADVANCE so we know how many tools to buy and workstations to prepare - we want this to be an event everyone can actively participate in!
*Those with difficulty stretching/reaching overhead or standing on the occasional short step stool are welcome, but may find some tasks challenging.
*Participants will be working with hand tools which pose the potential risk of injury. That said, KPF will provide work gloves, masks, safety glasses, etc. as needed for personal safety; if you have/prefer your own, please feel free to bring them.
*You may appreciate having a little notebook for jotting down details, but this isn't required.
*KPF will also provide bottled water and light snacks.
