"There are 26 vertebrae in the adult human spine. I couldn’t order a replacement for mine after it broke. My spine is the length of this strip light.”
Claudia Palazzo and sound artist Conrad Kira present a performance with dance, live sound, wheels, text, and a lot of strip lights. Cement, bone, re-construction and bass music come together to explore notions of urban healing, resilience and the concrete fetish.
Navigating the complex tensions between inherent strength and the impact of damage.
It’s calm but unmanageable, direct and dense. Somewhere between peace and aggression.
"During the early days of my diagnosis when I couldn't walk I was confined to my room on the top floor of a block of flats. The city skyline was full of suspended corridors of strip-lights in high rise buildings. I became interested in these corridors of light as divine objects, ever visible oracles that had managed to transcend the ground floor. Objects held up by concrete."
Get up, just get up. It’s better to go out on a high. Some new kind of high rise.
