Sublime Shadows Women’s Photography CampoutWriting-on-Stone Provincial Park. August long weekend | Friday July 31 to Tuesday morning

A four-night women’s photography campout in one of Alberta’s most visually striking landscapes.

This is for women who want focused creative time, strong images, and connection with other creatives without workshops or rigid schedules. Whether you shoot on a phone or work professionally, you are welcome.

You will leave with a body of work shaped by prairie light, hoodoo formations, and the freedom to follow your own process. You will also leave with new creative relationships formed through shared time in the field.

We will share a group campsite over four nights. The structure is intentionally minimal. There is no instruction and no set itinerary. You can explore independently, collaborate with others, or move between both.

The landscape is the anchor. The hoodoos create a sculptural, shifting environment that changes throughout the day. Golden hour stretches across the valley. Nights offer full moon and long exposure conditions. The quiet of the park gives space to think and make work with intention.

The weekend coincides with the region’s annual rodeo. For those interested, this adds a second stunning environment, offering movement, culture, and contrast to the stillness of the landscape.

Evenings gather around the fire. This is where conversations happen and connections form naturally.

Creative atmosphere - in addition to open shooting time, I will bring a small selection of optional art materials and loosely guided creative prompts and props for those who want to experiment. These are informal and self-directed, designed to spark ideas rather than structure the experience. Participation is entirely optional.

If you have wardrobe, props, or concepts, bring them. We will have each other as subjects and collaborators.

What your ticket includes

Your ticket reserves a spot on the shared group campsite from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning. This is your base for the weekend.

If you prefer alternative accommodation such as a hotel, RV site, or separate campsite, you are still welcome to join. You can spend time with the group, shoot alongside others, and come to the fire without purchasing a campsite ticket. The registration fee applies only to those staying on the group site.

What to expect

This is a self-supported camping experience. You are responsible for your own:

  • Tent and sleeping setup
  • Food and water
  • Cooking equipment
  • Photography gear

The group site is unserviced. The park offers a small camp store and coin-operated hot showers. Large trailers and RVs cannot be accommodated on the group site.

The nearest town is Milk River for those choosing alternative accommodation or access to grocers or I believe they have a small cafe. Lethbridge is the last big city with more options.

An on-site interpretive centre offers guided tours of the hoodoos and the historic writings on the stone for those interested in the cultural and geological context of the area.
