About this Event
Join Us for the Women’s Peace & Unity Luncheon
Before Mother’s Day became a holiday centered on cards and gifts, it began as a call to action led by Julia Ward Howe (May 27, 1819 – October 17, 1910), who wrote the Mother’s Day Proclamation. Howe, an American author and poet best known for writing “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” envisioned the day as a way to unite women across political and social divides to stand for peace, reconciliation, and the dignity of all people.
The Women’s Peace & Unity Luncheon revives that founding vision by reclaiming Mother’s Day as a day of empowerment, solidarity, and collective action. This gathering launches a new annual tradition in our community honoring women’s leadership in peace and unity while creating a multigenerational space where experienced advocates and emerging powerful young women come together to share a meal and meaningful conversation.
Designed intentionally to bridge divides and center shared humanity over partisan identity, the luncheon introduces a new generation to the women whose courage shaped movements for justice before us. By leaving our politics at the door and sharing a meal, we will build relationships that extend beyond a single event and contribute to more unified communities in our state and the world.
