About this Event
Violence against women is a terrible problem that affects people from all countries and all walks of life. More and more women are reporting being assaulted, harassed, or generally feeling unsafe in their environments. The second level of our Women's Self Defense Series offers women additional tools for self-protection. This women led course focuses on utilizing knees, kicks, and elbows in a way that works well with a woman's natural strength. Over this course, we will emphasize adding knees, kicks, and improved lower body positioning to the self-defense techniques from our Level 1 course. Check out our agenda for some of the topics that will be covered.
This course will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 12th to August 28th from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Your ticket for this course registers you for all 6 lesssons!
Wear something comfortable to move around in and bring a friend!
Agenda
Day 1 - Self-Defense Against Punches (Agility)
Info: In this session we focus on moving from a balanced position to drive off of for blocking punches and counter attacks including using knees, elbows, and kicks. These techniques expand on defenses against left or right punches, hair pulls, and chokes.
Day 2 - Single Wrist Grabs (Leverage)
Info: In this session we address how to use your whole body as leverage against single wrist grabs and aggressive hand shakes.
Day 3 - Bear Hugs & Rear Grabs (Be Tactical)
Info: In this session we cover how to break away from an attacker grabbing from behind and develop skills with identifying vulnerable targets. This session also works on how to use an attackers size and strength against them.
Day 4 - Double Wrist Grabs
Info: In this session we introduce escapes when both wrists are trapped by an attacker from in front or behind. Mentally we address the benefits of staying calm and how self-defense situations are inherently unpredictable.
Day 5 - Every Day Objects
Info: In this session we discuss how everyday objects like purses, umbrellas, bags, and water bottles can become tools to create openings for kicks and other attacks.
Day 6 - Review
Info: It's graduation day! In this session we review the self-defense tools we have build over the course and check in for any final "what if..." situations that are still on students minds.
