We are holding Women's Sail Camp at Virginia Inland Sailing Association on Smith Mountain Lake, 450 Sailor’s Cove Road, North Shore, VA, beginning at 4 pm, Saturday, August 17 and ending with lunch at 1 pm, Sunday, August 18, 2026. This is an opportunity to have women leaders who help you with the basics of learning to sail. If you have never sailed or just want to learn more basic sailing from other women in a social setting, this is for You! There will be on-land instruction and hands-on boat instruction if weather permits, Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch.
Campers and Volunteers feel free to bring a tent or camper for Friday and/or Saturday night. We have full bathhouse/bathroom facilities, kitchens, refrigerators. You can reserve a campsite to bring your tent or RV on our website! If camping isn't your thing, Bernard's Landing condominiums are right nextdoor and you can find Airbnb or VRBO condos for rent. You should book on the same side of the lake or you will be driving 45 minutes to VISA.
Sail Camp consists of instruction on land and hands-on sailboat interaction. This is for those who want to know if they want to sail and those who want some beginning training. Our goal is always to spend as much time sailing as possible - weather dependent. The topics that will be covered are Safety, Knots, Points of sail, Parts of a sailboat, as well as hands-on sailing.
Tickets will go on sale for both VISA members and non-members in August. The cost to attend for VISA members will be announced at that time. Camp fees are non-refundable after August 10th for any cancellations or no-shows. If you attended in the past and have a WSC T-shirt, please bring it with you. Those who have not received a WSC T-shirt at a camp of yesteryear, please indicate your shirt size when prompted (shirts run small).
Here are a few of the key knots that we use all of the time on our boat. Have fun practicing them in advance:

Any VISA women who want to be a Skipper or a Skipper Helper, please send an email to [email protected] so we can get you signed up! Skippers and Helpers attend free.
I am so Excited!! Women’s Sail Camp is always a Fun and Comfortable learning environment that focuses on Knowledge and Empowerment, encouraging you to take the helm with Confidence and Independence, yet inviting others to come alongside and be part of the Team! This setting allows us to form strong connections with the participants and build camaraderie, which can last a Lifetime. We come together at all levels of experience and continue to build one upon the other. This would not be possible without the Volunteers for Planning/Administration/Leadership/Teaching. The Energy and Excitement ensures a positive setting for all who attend. The piece de resistance is seeing women who have never sailed before decide to embrace the Sport of Sailing and start on their Adventure. If we are fortunate, campers join VISA and we get to watch them in action!! We Thank Everyone who contributes and invests in the Sailors of tomorrow!!
I hope you are planning to Register to ensure you do not miss the boat!
