Women and the 2024 Election: Why Didn’t the US Elect Its First Woman President?
The United States tested the electability of a viable female presidential candidate in the last election. Dr. Jesse Donahue, a professor in the Political Science Department at Saginaw Valley State University, will provide a broad overview of the gender, partisan, and public opinion gaps and barriers that prevented the United States from electing its first woman president.
Dr. Donahue is Professor of Political Science and the coordinator of the Gender Studies program at SVSU. She regularly teaches a class on gender and politics and has produced scholarly research on the topic. She also frequently does media interviews on elections and other aspects of politics with national news organizations, including the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, the Atlantic, Al Jazeera English and New York Magazine, and local news organizations, including MLive.
