About this Event
Fannie Lou Hamer, and Viola Gregg Liuzzo, became famous for the part they played in the fight for voting rights.
Fannie Lou Hamer was an African American civil rights activist who led voting drives and co-founded the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party.
Hamer coined the phrase: 'I Am Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired'
Viola Gregg Liuzzo was an activist in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Although from Detroit, she was murdered in Alabama by members of the Ku Klux Klan for her efforts. She is the only white woman known to die in the Civil Rights Movement.
Both women represented the Southern Christian Leadership Conferences (SCLC).
