Join the Missouri Department of Conservation staff for Women in the Wilderness. Located at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, this program is designed and instructed by women for women curious about the outdoors. Learn about and experience a variety of different outdoor skills from birding to archery, create friendships with other likeminded women, and spend a day enjoying what our wild Missouri has to offer.
This event will take place October 26th from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Participants should bring a lunch to eat that does not need to be microwaved or refrigerated. This program is for women ages 18+. If registering as a group, all participants need to register individually instead of registering one “group representative.” Spots are limited, so act fast! In this program, you will experience two “cycles” of activities, as well as a joint activity between everyone in the middle of the day. Cycle 1 is made up of three 45-minute activities: birding, nature journaling, and hiking safety. Cycle 2 is made up of two 45-minute activities: archery and BB gun shooting. See below for a schedule of activities:
8:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.: Welcome and Ice Breaker
• 15 minutes to break into three groups, use restrooms, and find starting locations.
• 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.: Rotation #1 of Cycle 1
• 9:50 a.m. – 10:35 a.m.: Rotation #2 of Cycle 1
• 10:40 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.: Rotation #3 of Cycle 1
• 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Break for lunch in the pavilion located on Tanglevine Trail
• 12:00 p.m. – 12:50 p.m.: Outdoor Cooking (samples provided) & Fire Starting. This session will be altogether.
• 10 minutes to break into two groups, use restrooms, and find starting locations.
• 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.: Rotation #1 of Cycle 2
• 1:50 p.m. – 2:35 p.m.: Rotation #2 of Cycle 2
• 2:40 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Closing thoughts, group photo, and goodbyes.
Be sure to bring good walking shoes, water, and dress for the weather. In case of inclement weather, this program may be altered or rescheduled. In either case, participants will be notified ahead of time.
