About this Event
BC’s Women Wage Peace supporter group -- together with co-sponsor Canadian Memorial Centre for Peace -- is delighted to invite you to join us for another thought-provoking, inspirational evening
Las Madres, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, the Oscar-nominated documentary about the Argentinian mothers’ movement demanding to know the fate of 30,000 “disappeared” sons and daughters remains as extraordinarily powerful as when it was first released in 1985 – when it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary. As well as providing an understanding of Argentinian history in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Las Madres shows the empowerment of women in a society where women are expected to be silent and provides a ray of hope in the international struggle for human rights.
This powerful documentary also received the 1986 Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and a number of other nominations and prizes at international film festivals.
