Bloc Team: Out of Body Experience with Amy Tuesdays starting Nov 18

PRE REQUISITE: This class is open to anyone who has completed Advanced Scenes 1 or higher, or who has equivalent experience (email us if you’re unsure!).

Here’s the thing: improv can be a lot more magical than we sometimes give it credit for. In this elective, you and your ensemble will develop a short hand for some bold, dramatic, dare-we-say theatrical moves that you’ll use to build a dynamic, borderline mystical new improv show.

Can we as improvisers go inside the brain of a character? As an ensemble, can we drop into slow motion (or fast motion!?) to help emphasize what a character is experiencing? And if we can dramatize the wild inner imaginings of a character, what tools can we use to have as much fun as possible once we’re in?

Come develop a new show with internationally-renown improv director Amy Shostak and add some very powerful new tools to your improv belt along the way.

This elective is one way into Bloc Fest 2025, a program that is designed to offer you a taste of what it’s like to do an improv festival. You and like-minded players will work with your coach on a special showcase and then throw that down at the Festival on December 11. Then you as an individual will jam with other festival players in the late show.

But Bloc Fest isn’t just about the performing. It also features awards for best group, best player, etc., and once all the on-stage stuff is done, everyone goes out together and riffs about how great each other are. Many great groups and friendships have formed at Bloc Fests gone by.

We highly recommend it to any improviser who is starting to get curious about what the wider improv world can offer. If a pre-chosen format or pre-set isn’t for you, you can also get a group of improv pals together and organize your own Bloc Team by submitting a Bloc Fest application by October 15 here.

Accessibility - Unfortunately this venue has limited accessibility. China Cloud is on the second floor of the building and is only accessible via a steep staircase.

Show Day Information - Wondering when your shows are? 95% of BTC shows are on Wednesday nights at 7PM or 9PM. Your exact show schedule will be sent on the first weekend of your class!
