Women Engineers Moved the Motor City: Female Automotive Pioneers in DetroitThis presentation explores the lives and careers of female engineering pioneers in the automotive industry: Virginia Sink, hired in by Chrysler in 1936 as the nation's first woman engineer; Ann Fletcher, a violin teacher turned trained for engineering during WWII and a longtime patent draftsman at Ford; Helma Fuhrmann, a WWII draftsman turned engineer at Detroit Diesel; and Lucille Pieti, Miss Wayne University 1950 and a mechanical engineer assigned to be spokeswoman for Plymouth.
