About this Event
This presentation will discuss three works by women: Rosalia Pianavia Vivaldi’s colonial diary Tre anni in Eritrea (1901), Sibilla Aleramo’s memoir Una donna (1906) and Marie Hall Ets’s transcribed oral storytelling Rosa: The Life of an Italian Immigrant (1970). Taken together these narratives link colonialism, emigration, and the Southern Question and emphasize the central, yet devalued, role and experience of women in the making of Italy and Italians.
Led by Clarissa Clò, Director of the Italian Studies Program and Chair of the Department of European Studies at SDSU, this presentation with Q&A is dedicated to the founder of ICC, Graziella Spinelli (1944-2014).
A reception will follow, with bites by Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant.
