Secrets of the Anglo-Saxon Goldsmith: scientific results from the analysis of the Staffordshire hoard gold.The metal detector find & subsequent excavation of the Staffordshire Hoard led to international newspaper headlines. The assemblage of artefacts, some complete & others hacked or broken, perhaps the result of payments to Vikings (Dane Geld) to stop raids is a fascinating story. Gold is key in its craftsmanship, origin & re-use.
