Kick off Halloween week with a chilling night of cinema and live music! WMUH brings you Alfred Hitchcock’s 1927 silent thriller The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog, considered the “first true Hitchcock film,” accompanied by a brand-new live score from New York City’s acclaimed collective Morricone Youth.

A Jack-the-Ripper–style killer known as “The Avenger” stalks the streets of London, targeting young blonde women. Suspicion grows when a mysterious stranger (Ivor Novello) rents a room at a family boarding house and becomes entangled with the landlord’s daughter—who also happens to be engaged to the detective investigating the murders. Tension mounts as love, fear, and suspicion collide in this early Hitchcock masterpiece.

Formed in 1999, Morricone Youth has reimagined and performed scores for over 100 classic films and television works, from Nosferatu to Eraserhead. They’ve toured internationally, performed at venues from CBGB to BAM, and released a series of vinyl albums reinterpreting iconic soundtracks—including their haunting live score for The Lodger.
