Wk 1: Cocooned Together Wet Felting Workshop, Pulse of the City

Join artist and facilitator Mandisa Smith for a hands-on wet felting workshop exploring creativity, care, and collective making. Building on last month's workshop series, the cocoon's metal frame is now installed at Oakland Avenue Urban Farm, and we are entering the next phase of its construction.

Participants will learn foundational wet felting and fiber arts techniques while contributing to Cocooned Together, a large-scale public sculpture rooted in healing, transformation, and collective care. Together, participants will help create the felt panels that will complete the cocoon, culminating in a live public activation during Detroit Month of Design on Sunday, September 13.

No prior experience is necessary. Come slow down, work with natural materials, connect with community, and become part of a living artwork that reflects the power of creativity, collaboration, and community care.
