21 November 2024 marks World Pancreatic Cancer Day, a global initiative dedicated to increasing awareness, supporting patients and families, and advocating for research and early detection of this devastating disease.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) 2023 cancer data highlights:

• Pancreatic cancer is forecasted to be the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia in 2023.
• In 2023, pancreatic cancer was expected to be the 8th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia.
• The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer in Australia is only 12.5%.
• Unfortunately, only 3 out of 10 individuals (36.4%) will survive one year following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
