WISE Nature Walks - Baird Tract

WISE walks offer a two-hour interpretative exploration of diverse locations in Sumter and Hernando Counties. Our primary focus is to enlighten participants about local wildlife, invasive species, scat, and tracks. Additionally, we delve into the local ethnobotanical practices and recount the history of native plants at each site.

Location: UF/IFAS Extension Sumter County Office, 7620 SR 471 Bushell, FL 33513

Hiking Difficulty: Moderate. Paths are maintained, but may be walking through high vegatation in some areas. Paths are not paved.

Restrooms: Available at the Extension office, but not at location.

What to wear: Opt for a long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt and pants. Closed-toed shoes and a hat are recommended.

What to bring: Don't forget your water, a snack, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent for a comfortable experience. Insect repellent is also necessary for all hikes. Look for insect repellent containing DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, Citronella, IR3535 or Soybean Oil

Is there a fee?

Yes, there is a $5.00 fee per person. Registration collected are used to support UF/IFAS events including natural resources.
