Participate in a thoughtful discussion of the book Ratification: The People Debate the Constitution, 1787-1788 by Pauline Maier. This award-winning book offers a comprehensive account of each state's journey towards ratifying the proposed constitution. As the book is lengthy, we plan to digest it a little at a time. As you read and reflect, jot down questions or points that stood out to you. Everyone's thoughts and ideas will lead to a lively discussion! Discussion schedule:
August 13th - Chapter 11: On to Poughkeepsie and Chapter 12: The New York Convention I
September 10th - Chapter 13: The New York Convention II and Chapter 14: Some Final Twists
October 8th - Epilogue "Playing the After Game" and Postscript - In Memorium
This event is free and open to the public. You are welcome to bring a snack to share and we will have beverages for purchase: cocktail of the evening and coffee with spirits $5; coffee, tea, and water $1.
