Wire Weaving for Jewelry & Home Decor with Lisa Van Herik

If you’ve ever wanted to work with wire, come and be amazed at the extensive learning that will be available in this one-day workshop. All supplies are provided in class along with samples and demonstrations.

So, what can you do with wire? There are many things aside from making jewelry that include making baskets, bowls, plates and wall hangings, limited only by your own imagination.

In this workshop, we’ll start by reviewing wire types and simple tools commonly used in wire working. We’ll also be presenting several types of textile techniques that can be adapted for use with wire.

Of the many techniques presented, each student will get the opportunity to try out each and discover the simplicity and ease of the various techniques. We’ll also discuss the finishing of final products and what it takes to make each technique sing. Focus will be on several particularly fast methods meant to grow your knowledge and enhance your confidence.

We’ll discuss design and structural stability along with presenting the following techniques: Soumak (a simple rug winding technique), Braiding (both round and flat), Loop in loop (basket making), and Twining. It’s very possible to make complex looking wire objects just based on these simple techniques.
