A Journey of Transformation: Altered Book Workshop

Join us for a transformative 3 class Altered Book Workshop: A Journey of Transformation workshop series, led by expressive arts facilitator and artist, JUDY NEMER SKLAR, as we turn an ordinary book into your own extraordinary masterpiece.

Workshop Overview:

Class 1: The Awakening - In our first session, we'll dive into the history and philosophy of altered books, exploring how this art form can be a powerful tool for personal growth and creativity. Participants will bring a preselected and pre-loved book and begin the process of 'awakening' it—setting intentions for their creative journey and starting the transformation with initial sketches and plans.

Class 2: The Reimagining - Building on the foundations laid in the first class, the second session is where the magic happens. We'll explore various techniques such as collage, painting, and decoupage to breathe new life into the pages. This class encourages participants to let their intuition guide their art, using the book as a canvas for self-expression and exploration.

Class 3: The Becoming - In our final gathering, we'll focus on completing our altered books. This is a time for refinement and reflection, adding finishing touches that fully realize the book's transformation. The workshop will culminate in a sharing circle, where each participant can showcase their work, share their experience, and celebrate their creative journey. Throughout the workshop, we'll incorporate elements of mindfulness and wellness, ensuring that the experience is not only about creating art but also about nurturing the soul.

Please bring:

A preselected, preloved hard covered book with a sewn in spine (not a glued spine), Small jar Mod Podge, One Inch Utility brush

Feel free to bring your favorite watercolor pencils or a brush and a few tubes of watercolor paints.
