Join Chamber Choir Ireland and conductor Gabriel Crouch as we celebrate the festive season with a concert of warming winter song.
The centrepiece of the concert, Joanna Marsh’s Winter’s Garland, captures the icy wonder of a child’s winter dream, the welcoming glow of lamplit halls at twilight, and the buzz of a midwinter feast.
This triptych of seasonal songs is nestled amongst a selection of Estonian folk hymns, medieval Irish and Nordic carols, and an Appalachian folk carol.
A 'rose sequence' brings together three very different settings of the much loved text 'Es ist ein Ros’ Entsprungen'—one by Renaissance Netherlandish composer Heinrich Isaac, a 1990 setting by the late Swedish composer Jan Sandström, and another composed by Hugo Distler in 1933 Germany.
Marking the end of Chamber Choir Ireland's 30th year celebrations, the programme also features a setting of O Magnum Mysterium by the organisation's founding Artistic Director, Colin Mawby.
