Winterruption YEG returns Jan. 20–24, 2027, for its seventh annual festival, expanding to 20 stages in downtown Edmonton and presenting the biggest lineup in its history. Headliners include Austin, Texas singer-songwriter Bill Callahan (formerly Smog), buzzy Los Angeles shoegaze band Clarion, Oregon lo-fi artist Grouper, all-female Brooklyn garage band Habibi, Montreal's Cola, San Diego legends Deadbolt, Ohio soul trio Parlor Greens, and Toronto cold wave act TRAITRS. Local electro legends Shout Out Out Out Out will also perform for the first time in nearly eight years.
Pre-sale wristbands are on sale now through Saturday, Oct. 10. Public wristband sales open Monday, Oct. 12, when individual show tickets also go on sale at 10 a.m. Individual shows range from $15 to $48.50 in advance with many events being free to attend. Five-day wristbands are $99 to $149, and a limited number of VIP Skip the Line passes are available for $249.
Winterruption YEG continues to blend music, comedy, drag, wrestling and winter, alongside the previously announced Northern Arts Conference (Jan. 21–22). This year's festival also introduces a new Indigenous Arts Day on Sunday, Jan. 24, featuring DJ workshops led by Indigenous acts Shub and Handsome Tiger, traditional Indigenous music, contemporary Indigenous hip hop, and tea & bannock with Elders at the ociciwan contemporary Indigenous art gallery.
Other new programming includes free DJ sets from 15 of Edmonton's best DJs at the City Hall skating rink, various clubs and outdoor patios at Cask & Barrel and Rocky Mountain Icehouse. Cask & Barrel also serves as the festival's late-night live venue, with local favourites Scenic Route to Alaska closing out both Friday and Saturday as part of their residency at the downtown pub.
The 2027 comedy lineup, presented at the Kathleen McGee Comedy Stage @ Freemason's Hall, includes returning comedian & shredder, Cleveland’s Dave Hill, an evening with the popular Instagram account canada.gov.ca admin, and Kevin McDonald of The Kids in the Hall, who leads a local cast in his rock opera Kevin McDonald Superstar. Toronto drag queen and Canada's Drag Race host Brooke Lynn Hytes headlines the festival's drag programming on Saturday, Jan. 23, at EVO.
The full 125-act lineup is available at winterruptionyeg.com . Additional schedule details will be released in the coming months, along with the schedule and speakers for the Northern Arts Conference.
