Winter Wellness: Pine Medicine Two-Part Workshop with Rachael Lange

Join herbalist Rachael Lange for a two-part class series on 01/23 and 01/30, offering a deep dive into the internal and topical uses of white pine medicine.

White pine is one of our oldest winter allies in Western herbalism. For centuries, it has been used by First Nations peoples as both spiritual and physiological medicine. Among the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) tradition, the white pine is known as the “Tree of Peace.” Many of us can relate to the deep sense of serenity felt when standing among white pines, even inhaling their sweet, resinous aroma can bring a calming presence to the spirit.

Beyond its energetic qualities, white pine is rich in medicinal benefits. It has been used topically to support wound healing, internally as a source of vitamin C, and its inner bark has traditionally been prepared as a cough syrup for respiratory support. There are myriad ways to work with this generous tree.

In Part One (01/23), we will sip a white pine needle infusion and prepare internal remedies, including white pine–infused honey and white pine syrup for respiratory health.

In Part Two (01/30), we will explore topical applications such as salves, oils, hydrosols, and scrubs, learning how to infuse our bathrooms and self-care rituals with the healing gifts of pine.

Working with plants seasonally helps align our bodies and spirits with the rhythms of nature. If you tend to struggle during the colder months, forming an alliance with a winter tree like white pine can offer grounding, warmth, and support.
