We will cover everything you need to know about pruning for fruit trees and deciduous (lose their leaves in winter)shrubs in SoCal!
About this Event

Join us in the Waterwise Community Center’s public garden in Montclair where we will demonstrate and explain the skills you need for successful pruning of fruit trees and winter deciduous waterwise and California native shrubs.

Participants in this class will leave understanding:

  • Essential tools for pruning, how and when to use them, and how to maintain them
  • What tools are worth purchasing and the best choices at different price points
  • Pruning techniques for fruit trees, including how to keep trees a “manageable” size
  • Purning techniques for the top winter deciduous waterwise and California native shrubs for local gardens
  • How to “look at” a tree or shurb and know if and what pruning is needed. Not too much and not too little……

Each participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home.

After the workshop concludes, for those who wish to stay, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. We will also tell you a bit about each one, why it is one of our favorites, and the garden situations in which it is likely thrive.

Our instructor for this workshop will be George Jimenez, Horticulture Lead and Conservation Technician here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center.

George has been active in diverse roles in the horticulture industry over the last 20 years, leading everything from high-end golf course landscape management to native landscape construction and specialized care of California native and waterwise gardens. He holds multiple industry certificates through Mt. San Antonio College and leads the hands-on garden volunteer program at CBWCD.
