Winter Speaker Series - Join us 6pm Wednesday 3/26Foraging the Riverlands: Reclaiming Wild Food on Today's Susquehanna - An Evening of Learning and Exploration with Horn Farm Center and Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association.
From unassuming “weeds” to towering trees, a surprising abundance of edible and medicinal plant species call the Lower Susquehanna Riverlands home. Learning how to safely and responsibly forage these plants is one way to connect more closely with the river landscape. However, while foraging can be gratifying and empowering, it also exposes us to the realities of pressures like development, pollution, and degradation that affect the health of the land and water. We can't ignore these issues when making decisions on how to engage with the landscape.
In this "foraging walk and river talk,” join folks from the Horn Farm Center and Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association as we explore the links between local edible plants and pressing issues facing the Riverlands. We'll begin with a walk around Riverfront Park in Wrightsville to identify wild plants that offer food and medicine, covering the fundamentals of safe ID, harvesting, and consumption. Then, we'll make our way to LSRA's new headquarters on Front St. to enjoy light snacks, sample wild teas, and dig deeper into how we can protect the land and waters of the Susquehanna. This program will underscore how foraging invites us to advocate not just for the incredible plant life around us, but for the health and fair treatment of the wider landscape these plants–and we–call home.
$35 General Admission includes food, local craft beverages, & a tip towards our fight for CLEAN WATER! All proceeds benefit Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association & Horn Farm Center. Pre-registration recommended. Walk-ins accepted if space is available. Pre-register today!
