As per tradition we welcome the winter solstice by practising 108 sun salutations.
Completing the Yoga Mala early morning has many benefits, and this one will be a beautiful yet powerful experience for all.
In winter its common to draw inwards and our practice can turn restorative, but its so important to keep the fire going- and we’ll be firing it up on the morning of the winter solstice for this workshop!
A Yoga Mala comprises of 108 Sun Salutations consisting of a combination of both Sun Salutation A & B without holding postures such as downward dog. Practising in sets of 9 with the opportunity to rest in Childs pose/ stretch your wrists or remain seated at the end of every set for a few breaths before you go again.
There is the option to lay down, be seated or rest during sets and most students will rest at some point.
There are many benefits to sun salutations including:
Strengthens and tones abdominal muscles by the alternate stretching and compression of abdominal organs.
Ventilates the lungs, and oxygenates the blood.
Acts as detoxifying agent: rids body of enormous quantity of carbon dioxide & other toxic gases.
Quiets the nervous system and improves memory.
Promotes sleep and calms anxiety.
Practising this rhythmic and repetitive movement also allows you to discover the energetic yet meditative benefits of completing a Yoga Mala
