Winter Solstice Plant Walk @ Potts Preserve!

Come join us for our first ever Winter Solstice Plant Walk at Potts Preserve! Get ready to explore the beauty of nature on December 21, 2025 at 7:30 AM (Eastern Time). Let's celebrate the shortest day and the longest night of the year in this pristine and serene ancient forest!

Get ready to embark on an incredible journey through time as we travel under the story of giants hundreds of years old that have weathered hurricane and hurdle. A true test of nature and resilience! We will witness the amazing adaptations of Old Growth Forests that make them capable of withstanding historical events such as Hurricane Helene and Milton. Not only that, but we get to watch how a healthy, intact habitat is capable of acting as strongholds against infiltration from invasive plants.

Hundreds and thousands of years cannot be grown in a single human lifetime. Old Growth Forests are not renewable, and in fact, they are dwindling. Witness what pre-columbian Florida may have looked like and know that Old Florida is Old Growth. Let's celebrate what we can still protect, not mourn what has been lost! Let's learn to heal the wounds of nature as we enter the New Year with the light of hope and how we can use our gardens, homesteads and farms to recover and restore what our legacy could be to future generations. As is our motto at The Ancestors Hand, lets share what our ancestors strived for so our descendants can thrive more and learn how Florida sand can become fertile soil!

We will take this time to let you know about our upcoming events, services we offer and answer your burning questions from the walk. The walk will end at a very special place to our guide. Feel free to spend as much time here as you like to sit by the river or explore the forest and connect with other participants and the guide. Feel free to enjoy any snacks you brought with you or journal or bring a book to read or simply sit and enjoy the forest. This is a great time for some end of year introspection.
