PARKER Contemporary is delighted to present Filtered Light, a new body of work by Alethea Richter.
Light is both subject and agent within these works: from the glow of the electronic display to the UV exposure that fixes marks onto the silkscreen mesh. Pixel-like forms move through sequences of translation, hand printed in meticulous layers of paint before being sliced and woven back into the surface as paper threads. The resulting works shift between image and object turning digital language into tactile form.
Richter’s surfaces slow the act of looking. Gradients, interruptions and woven depths draw the eye across areas that cannot be resolved at a glance, making physical the processes of seeing and interpreting that are often obscured in the seamlessness of the screen.
Filtered Lightconsiders what occurs when the restless visual language of digital imagery is brought into contact with a contemporary material practice. Through accumulation, touch and shifting conditions of light, Richter recasts the pixel-like mark as something tactile, unstable and held in time.

In 2025, she received the Emerging Artist Award at the Burnie Print Prize and graduated with First Class Honours from Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University. Richter’s work has been exhibited at Sydney Contemporary, Aotearoa Art Fair and in group exhibitions nationally and internationally. She was awarded the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Emerging Artist Prize in 2023 and Best in Show at the Ipswich Art Awards in 2024. Richter is currently a 2026 National Works on Paper finalist.
