Join us at the Texas Maritime Museum for our annual Winter Lecture Series every Monday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. This free program is one of our most popular adult programs and offers twelve weeks of engaging and informative presentations by distinguished professionals in their respective fields. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
Susie Bracht Black is a fifth-generation Aranas County resident. She attended schools in Aransas County and went from high school to the family lumber and hardware business, where she had worked since the age of twelve. In 1989, she and her brother Bryan purchased Bracht Lumber, which they operated, and grew into a successful model of a substantial independent yard. It was sold in 2005.
During her years in business and since her retirement, Susie has been involved in the Rockport-Fulton community as a volunteer, supporter, and fundraiser for numerous organizations, including the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Good Samaritans, Odyssey After School Enrichment Program, AIM Hospice, and Aransas County EMS. She has been a member of the Margaret Sue Rust Foundation since 2005.
Susie is also a fabric artist and a lifelong sewist and crafter. She occasionally teaches in South Texas and displays her work at Windway Gallery and Rockport Center for the Arts.
Her involvement in The Texas Maritime Museum began in 1983. It included two terms as BOD president, five years on the board of directors, and participation in multiple capital campaigns for the museum. She has also been a supporter/advisor to every executive director the museum has had, beginning with the museum's opening in 1989.
