The Montgomery Museum of Art & History is pleased to announce a Winter Garden Seminar to help invigorate green thumbs during the cold season, with a special forum focused on using native Virginia plants in both home and community gardens.
While the frosty weather may prevent active work in the garden, this is the prime time to start planning for your springtime garden! Our speakers will be sharing information on how community spaces are becoming more ecologically authentic by using native plants and how to use native plants in your own garden. Presenting speakers include Beth Umberger, Master Gardener, Montgomery Museum of Art & History Garden; Carol Davis, Sustainability Manager for the Town of Blacksburg; Cathy Hanks, President, Friends of Peak Creek; and Jennifer Lovern, owner of Draper Springs Nursery.
The seminar will begin with each presenter giving a talk on local activities with native plants. Afterwards, there will be time for questions and discussions with the seminar presenters. This is a great opportunity to learn from others, see native plant usage in the community, and gain inspiration for your spring garden.
This seminar is generously sponsored by local businesses Crow’s Nest Greenhouses and Back to Nature Landscaping & Construction. Alongside the winter garden seminar, the Montgomery Museum is hosting a raffle for a $50 Crow’s Nest Greenhouses gift certificate. Proceeds from this raffle will help support the Montgomery Museum’s programming and garden, which is open to the public at 300 South Pepper Street. Tickets are $2 each or three tickets for $5, and can be purchased at the museum and on https://form.jotform.com/250133642488154. The raffle drawing will take place on February 14.
This garden seminar will take place on February 8, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. To learn more about the workshop, speakers, and raffle opportunity, visit www.montgomerymuseum.org/events-page/winter-garden-seminar-using-native-plants-in-home-and-community-gardens.
