Our mission is to promote Jewish culture and education in Greater Boston, working to eliminate antisemitism and hatred through cultural engagement. Your presence signifies your partnership in this vital work.
For years, Center Makor has proudly collaborated with Congregation Kehillath Israel, and we are grateful for the continued support of Rabbi Bill Hamilton and the KI community.
We are thrilled to welcome our dear friend and world-renowned Cantor, Svetlana Portnyansky, from Los Angeles. Svetlana is a magnificent entertainer with a unique style, performing in Yiddish, Hebrew, and English.

Svetlana Portnyansky
— A solo Jewish and international singer, Svetlana’s youthful style, sensational voice and personal charm made her one of the leading singers in her homeland of Russia and in recent years, has endeared her to audiences around the world. In 1996 she recorded the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s documentary “Survivors of Holocaust” at Capitol Records and in 2002 the soundtrack for Jeff Kanew’s film “Babij Jar.” Throughout her career, Svetlana has performed with internationally known stars such as Steve Allen, Lionel Hampton, Maximilian Schell, Roselin Kind, Lenny Kazan, Clare Berry, Debbie Friedman, Bruce Adler, Mike Burstein and Cantor Dudu Fisher among others.
