Hi everyone! We are having our first winter clothing drive of the season on Saturday November 15th from 3-5pm at the Moorhead Library! We will be in the community room downstairs, and there is elevator access! Donations will **ONLY** be accepted in that timeframe; this is not in collaboration with the library and they will NOT be accepting donations before/after this! The community really showed up last year with lots of warm gear, and it helped keep so many folks warm throughout the cold months. This is the first winter since the camping ban went into place in Fargo, and a warming center has yet to open up in Fargo or Moorhead. The Cass County Public Health building is not available for winter warming this year. Despite having an entire year to plan on where to put it, city officials still have no answers as to where the warming center will be (at the time this was posted). It's cold and rainy and about to get worse, and their lack of urgency is horrific.
Winter clothing donations are vital to keeping our neighbors safe when city officials continue to fail to keep them warm / get them housed. To help meet those needs, we are once again reaching out for winter gear donations that folks can spare such as clean, gently-used coats, socks, gloves, hats, blankets, snow pants, unused thermal underwear, boots, sleeping bags, and backpacks/tote bags (to carry their belongings).
Some other items that are a big need this time of year are hand/foot warmers, tissues, unused chapstick, unused lotion.
The clothing (along with snacks and water) will be distributed by community members to unsheltered neighbors and others in need.
Even if you can only donate a couple pairs of socks, or a pair of mittens, that is still going to make it to someone who needs them.
