December 22nd / 10am – 12pm – Radical Turtles & Tortoises – Turtles and tortoises are so cute, but do they really help the environment? Yes, yes they do! Come learn how these radical creatures are like bumblebees and other pollinators. (Animal handling – a variety of turtles and tortoises)
December 23rd/ 10am – 12pm – Radical Crocodiles – How have crocodiles survived for so long? Did you know there were crocodiles alive when the dinosaurs were still alive? Alligators and crocodiles have antibodies flowing through their blood! We’ll take a deeper dive into these radical beasts for this week’s program. (Animal handling opportunity: crocodiles, alligators and caiman (mouths taped))
December 24th / 10am – 12pm – Radical Reptile Enrichment Day – Keeping reptiles is fun, but they need exercise and enrichment. We’ll be pulling out several of the animals to get them of both! Activities could include tortoise races, lizard crawls, animal baths, spreading leaves into the enclosures and more! This will be a fun day of hands on learning. (Animal Handling – variety of reptilian species)
December 29th / 10am – 12pm – Radical Small Snakes – What good are snakes? Why do we find them near our homes? Did you know that there are some incredible uses for snake venom? – In this class we will learn why snakes are such an important part of our ecosystem and important in the medical world. (Animal Handling – a variety of small snakes)
December 30th / 10am – 12pm – Radical Amphibians – Why do people want to lick toads? What is the difference between venom and poison? Find out answers to these questions and more when we take a closer look at Radical Amphibians! (Animal Observation – amphibians)
December 31st / 10am – 12pm – Radical Lizards – Lizards are both predators and prey. In this week’s camp we will learn about lizards serve as both pest control and how they fit into the food web as prey for larger animals. (Animal handling – a variety of lizards)
January 1st / 10am – 12pm – Radical Large Snakes – Are large snakes scary or cool? What makes large snakes so unique? Can large snakes be handled safely? These are the topics we will be discussing in this class. (Animal Handling – several snakes over 6ft long)
January 2nd/ 10am – 12pm – Radical Arachnids and Bugs – Did you know that tarantulas have magical hairs on their bodies? Did you know that when a cockroach touches something gross, it washes its hands? Come find out all the cool and weird things that these radical arachnids and bugs do and how parts of their bodies have been used for many other purposes! (Animal handling or observations: Tarantulas, Scorpions, Cockroaches and a variety of other bugs)
