About this Event
Winter Blues is a “Color Purple meets Sinners” kind of night—gritty, soulful, funny, healing, and unapologetically real. Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields opens up his book Winter Blues, bringing the poems, essays, and reflections to life through story, rhythm, and lived experience. Together, we’ll talk honestly about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)—that quiet winter heaviness so many people carry—and we’ll push back against it with music, breathwork moments, poetry, and community.
Set inside a historic train depot, the vibe will feel like a juke joint meets a living room—warm, intimate, and full of soul. Feel free to dress the part—think blues club, juke joint, Sunday fly, vintage, leather, denim, fedoras, fur, pearls… whatever makes you feel like you belong in the moment.
And it’s bigger than one night: Winter Blues is a fundraiser for The Short Kuts Show, helping keep the mic on for powerful stories that move our community forward.
A night of blues, breath & belonging—where music, poetry, and community warm what winter tries to freeze.
